Carly Rae Jepsen Is Down To Write A Heated Rivalry Song And “Maybe” Named Her Son After Connor Storrie’s Character

Carly Rae Jepsen writes a lot of songs. Next week, she'll release her massive new double album Day And Night. We've already posted the singles "On Wires," "After All," "Don't Leave Me On The Dance Floor," and "Motivation," and that's really just scratching the surface. I have heard the whole thing, and I can tell you that it's awesome. Jepsen also wrote the songs for an upcoming Broadway musical version of 10 Things I Hate About You, joining a creative team that also includes fellow millennial icon Lena Dunham. While she's at it, Jepsen might write a song for Heated Rivalry, the HBO show that may or may not have inspired her infant son's name.

The post Carly Rae Jepsen Is Down To Write A Heated Rivalry Song And “Maybe” Named Her Son After Connor Storrie’s Character appeared first on Stereogum.

Breaking Benjamin Frontman Begs Concertgoers To Download His Fallout 4 Mod He Got Bullied Over

Benjamin Burnley, frontman of the Pennsylvania active rock staples Breaking Benjamin, would really, really, like you to download his Fallout 4 mod. It would mean a lot to him. On Saturday night, Breaking Benjamin played a headlining gig at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. During the show, drummer Brian Medeiros broke a snare, and a drum tech had to come up to help him fix it. That meant that the band had some dead time onstage, and Burnley used more than five minutes to give the crowd a speech about his Fallout 4 mod.

The post Breaking Benjamin Frontman Begs Concertgoers To Download His Fallout 4 Mod He Got Bullied Over appeared first on Stereogum.

Deafheaven Ready New EP That’s “By Far The Heaviest Thing” They’ve Ever Done

Last year, Deafheaven released their album Lonely People With Power. It was heavy, and it was also great. In the many years since they first came to internet prominence, Deafheaven have had a complicated relationship with the extreme metal underground that birthed then, and they seem to be fully embracing intensity right now. In fact, they apparently have a new EP in the works, and guitarist Kerry McCoy identifies it as "the heaviest thing" they've ever done.

The post Deafheaven Ready New EP That’s “By Far The Heaviest Thing” They’ve Ever Done appeared first on Stereogum.

Liars Announce New Album A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans: Hear “Ice Pick, Kalamazoo”

We're coming up on the 25th anniversary of Liars' classic debut album They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top, an emblematic record from that era of New York rock 'n' roll. A quarter century later, Liars soldier on. For about a decade, Liars have been a solo project for frontman Angus Andrew. So there's only one Liar. When he says that there are plural Liars, he's lying. The last Liars album was The Apple Drop, which came out about five years ago, and now Andrew is coming back with a new one with the vivid title A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans.

The post Liars Announce New Album A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans: Hear “Ice Pick, Kalamazoo” appeared first on Stereogum.

How Strange It Is – “Holladay Park”

How Strange It Is release their second album There Is No Evil next month, and it's going to be a treat. The Portland band reeled us in with the shoegazey pop-rock chaos of "Slime," which posed a compelling contrast to its whispery, Sparklehorse-indebted followup single "Tough Luck." Now, we get the sly, engrossing "Holladay Park," which, despite being under two minutes, contains seismic levels of catharsis in its huge chorus, with guitars that come crashing in hard enough to knock you off your feet. Dive in below.

The post How Strange It Is – “Holladay Park” appeared first on Stereogum.
